Become proficient at reading mountain winds, adjusting performance, and making critical decisions as you learn to fly in the challenging Sierra Mountains.
We will fly a Cessna 172 or Citabria 7KCAB to Mammoth, Truckee, Lake Tahoe, Blue Canyon or others, and do several takeoffs and landings at each. You will log approximately 5 hours of flying time and 8 hours of instruction.
Recommended for current private pilots. Please contact your instructor for reading and planning homework as soon as you schedule. Our ground lesson will include techniques for high-elevation takeoffs and landings, flight at or below the mountaintops and in valleys, how to read the winds, and how to safely climb and cross mountain ridges.
You will get to practice all of these as we fly in some of the most scenic areas of the Sierras. A total of two people can come along (pilot plus one passenger). This trip can be customized depending on individual preferences. Additional flight or instructor time beyond the course will be billed per hour.
