Cost and hours are based on necessary amount of training for proficiency. If adding a multi-engine rating, 10-15 hours of flight time is typical.
Rates: The Twin Comanche rents for $265/hour wet hobbs; however, if you are a member we offer block discount of 10% for cash or check prepayment at our Reid-Hillview location only. This brings the rental rate for the Twin Comanche to $240.91/hour. Our instructor block rate is $75.45 to $80 per hour depending on the instructor’s qualifications and experience.
Sample estimate with block discount:
15 hours in the Twin Comanche: $4,125
15 hours of Dual Flight Instruction: $1200 for senior MEI rate
10 hours of Ground Instruction: $800 for senior MEI
Total based on 15 hours flight instruction and 10 hours of ground/preflight instruction at block rate = $6,125
The checkride is generally 1.5 hours flight time plus the examiner’s fee
To receive block credit, you must be a member, which is $50/month or $350/year, so include this in your total.
Keep in mind each student’s proficiency and prior experience, plus studying beforehand, can minimize or increase the costs. This is a sample estimate only to help you financially plan for an add-on rating. If you are transitioning from Private Pilot to Commercial Pilot, there are additional training requirements (night, cross-countries, etc.) that will increase costs.
