I’ll try to keep flying during graduate school, but between the workload and the lack of money, that may prove difficult. “I started my fascination with aviation when I was young. My parents would tell me when I was 6 I would be looking at airplanes and would point at planes and say “I want to do that some day”, and that day came. With the help of my parents I was able to start my flight training at 15 and a half, before I had my driving permit, and soloed on my 16th birthday, flying alone before I could drive a car alone. I have been flying for around 2 years and finally earned my private pilot certificate with the help of many instructors.” ~ Jacob

“I became a pilot because I love flying, the freedom it gives you, and the wonderful people you meet along the way.

I strangely love how difficult it was for me to get my license. It pushed me to have serious discipline when things got tough, and push forward even when it felt like I would never cross the finish line. I’m grateful for the process and the determination it took, against all the hiccups and delays. I am a much better person because of it.

My goals with flying are simple. Have as much fun as possible. However, I do plan on purchasing an airplane in the coming months so I can search for the perfect $100 hamburger and fly my family all over the West Coast.” ~Jess

“Having a family of military/commercial pilots influenced me to become one. I’m now the third generation in my family to fly, but the first female in my family. But honestly, my grandmother influenced me to fly even though she wasn’t a pilot. When she was younger she wanted to fly, but back then you had to get your father’s permission (which she did not have permission from hers) so she decided she would marry a pilot (and she did, my grandpa!). So I wanted to do this for her. My plan now is to hopefully go into the Air Force and fly my dream plane C-130.” ~ Nicole

Thanks to the great instruction provided by Travis and Kat, student pilot Yuchen put in the hard work and earned his Private Pilot License! Despite gusty, turbulent conditions at Reid-Hillview, Yuchen departed with CFI James for Sacramento to pass his checkride on the first attempt with DPE Oren. Way to pull together, team! We are proud to have made Yuchen’s dreams come true.

“How I got into flying: I’ve been around general aviation my entire life. My father, who has been an active private pilot for 38 years, completed the build of his Glasair I shortly before I was born. By the time I was two weeks old, my parents flew me in the Glasair to my first airshow in Tennessee. My family and I have had countless GA adventures since then and we have attended Oshkosh Airventure together sixteen times! Since I finished college and have time for training, my goal has been to obtain my private pilot certification.
What I will do now: Now that I completed my private pilot certification, I will exercise my privileges on leisurely trips and flying adventures with friends and family. I plan on continuing my training to obtain instrument, complex, and tail wheel ratings.”
